Used car news: Bad driving 'passes from parents to children'
Parents 'pass on driving habits to kids'
Parents who drive new and used cars in an unsafe manner may be unwittingly passing on those bad habits to their children.
"Children learn from the behaviour of their parents," said Peter Rodger, chief examiner at the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).
"If you never wear a SEAT belt, it is seen as acceptable by your child, even if you insist they wear one as they're growing up," the expert warned.
Mr Rodger suggested that a blase attitude towards safety inherited from parents, together with a lack of lessons from a professional instructor, can be a "lethal" combination.
In a recent study from the Co-operative Insurance and road safety charity Brake, almost one in three young drivers (30 per cent) admitted to driving recklessly and illegally.
Furthermore, 35 per cent of drivers under the age of 25 said they regularly break the speed limit in built-up areas.
