Toyota brings hydrogen concept car to the UK
The latest model in the range of environmentally-friendly Toyota cars is to make its UK debut at the Brighton to London Future Car Challenge.
In this particular race, speed is not as important as arriving with the lowest possible energy output, so Toyota has brought its new fuel cell concept car to compete.
FCHV-adv is hydrogen-fuelled and therefore emits nothing but water, and has been engineered with four fuel tanks to allow it to travel up to 515 miles between fill-ups.
The vehicle has a top speed of 96 miles an hour, but it is the efficiency of the hydrogen engine that has really got people talking, Toyota claims.
"Toyota's real-world testing of FCHV-adv in California has shown the system to be robust and practical, paving the way for the vehicle to be brought to market from 2015," the firm states.
A tenth anniversary Prius was recently released by Toyota to celebrate a decade of sales in the UK for the hybrid vehicle.
