RoSPA awards recognise motoring safety groups
Voluntary groups who provide training to motorists to help cut the number of accidents have had their work recognised at an awards ceremony staged by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). There are around 60 of RoSPA's Advances Drivers and Riders (RoADAR) groups, with the award for the best car group going to the East Midlands Advanced Drivers' Association, while Kent RoADAR was runner-up. Such voluntary training goes a long way towards helping family car users avoid accidents more easily and RoSPA chief executive Tom Mullarkey said: "we cannot overstate the importance of volunteer groups like RoADAR that do their bit to hone the practical skills and critical thinking of so many road users." RoSPA recently launched a new car safety campaign that literally started at home, aiming to highlight the dangers facing children who wander on to driveways. It noted 17 fatal accidents of this kind have occurred in Britain since 2007, of which 14 happened when cars were reversing and three after the handbrake was released inadvertently.
