New Volkswagen Polo wins award

VW Polo wins Small Car of the Year award

The new Volkswagen Polo has been crowned Small Car of the Year at the Scottish Car of the Year awards.

It is the first UK accolade for the popular family car which went on sale in car dealerships in October.

Volkswagen has revealed that more than 8,000 orders have been taken for the new car, meaning that the level of demand is an "incredible" 86 per cent higher than projected.

On presenting the Car of the Year gong, the Scottish judges said: "The Polo's mix of quality and competitive pricing plus a wide range of trim and engine options ensured its place on pole position. If only everything in life was as reliable as our 2009 champion."

Volkswagen UK director Chris Craft welcomed the award and said he hopes for even more success for the brand next year.

The latest survey from JATO Dynamics, which was published last month, shows that the Volkswagen Golf is the best-selling car in Europe, having shifted almost 60,000 units in September.
