Manchester commuters drive at just 13.3mph

Drivers in Manchester have the worst average daily commute of anyone in the country, according to research from Direct Line.

While those travelling into Glasgow and London usually have to travel further to travel at 19.4 and 17.8 miles respectively, those commuting to Manchester have to travel the most slowly.

Manchester commuters achieve an average speed of 13.3mph, making a 25.4-mile round trip to and from work take around one hour and 55 minutes.

Steve Price, head of Direct Line car insurance, said that it is clear nine-to-five is not an accurate representation of the working day for many commuters, but there are ways to deal with the frustration being stuck in traffic can bring.

"Checking your route before leaving home, pre-warning your boss when you know traffic is bad or having a flexible working agreement in place can all help to reduce the stresses and strains of driving to work," he said.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801278770-ADNFCR
