Land Rover sales 'boosted' by bad weather

Land Rover sales have been boosted by the icy cold weather of the past couple of months, it is revealed.

The company said sales for January this year were up 58 per cent on January 2009, nearly doubling the industry average.

Across the model range, Discovery sales increased by 92 per cent, Range Rover Sport transactions were up by 66 per cent, the Freelander rose in popularity by 57 per cent and Range Rover sales saw a 24 per cent increase.

"Heavy snow and icy conditions last month meant car buyers were looking for a vehicle that provides them with the all-terrain capability to keep them on the roads," explained Land Rover managing director John Edwards.

The Land Rover Discovery 4 was crowned Best 4x4 at last month's What Car? Awards, beating off tough competition from the likes of the Mercedes ML, the BMW X5 and the Lexus RX450h.
