FTA praises prompt reaction to winter snow on UK roads

The response from the Highways Agency to the recent snowfall deserves some credit, according to the Freight Transport Association (FTA).

Last year, authorities came in for heavy criticism after a lethargic reaction to snowfall and poor planning left many roads treacherous during winter snowfall.

However, the FTA says that the feedback from its members regarding the reaction to the recent snowy weather has been largely positive, with local authorities up and down the country responding quickly to ensure that roads remain operational.

Theo de Pencier, chief executive officer of the FTA, says it is clear that lessons have been learned from last year, but it is important that such standards are maintained, as the Met Office predicts further snowfall this week.

He commented: "It is important that highways authorities keep up this standard of support in the face of further uncertain weather conditions.

"It is equally important that all road users heed travel advice with common sense and responsibility."ADNFCR-2576-ID-801289203-ADNFCR
