Fiat cars found to be the most carbon-conscious

FIAT cars have the lowest average carbon emissions of any major manufacturer, according to the latest data.

Statistics compiled by Clean Green Cars show that FIAT vehicles produce an average of 116.31g/km of carbon.

This is significantly lower than the nearest competitor, Citroen, and makes FIAT one of just nine of the 31 major manufacturers that are currently meeting the European Union target of 130g/km or less.

Furthermore, FIAT is also the most improved brand in the sector, with a 6.64 per cent year-on-year reduction in emissions.

Toyota cars are third on the list behind Citroen, followed by SEAT and Lexus cars. MINI, Alfa Romeo, Hyundai and Peugeot cars complete the nine.

The EU's 130g/km target comes into force this year, but full compliance is not required until 2015.

One of FIAT's best-performing models is the 500, which has just won its fourth consecutive Best City Car honour at the 2012 BusinessCar Awards.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801276239-ADNFCR
