BCC calls for road improvements to be speeded up

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has called on the government to do more to unlock transport construction projects, including roads

Commenting as it published its latest transport map, the BCC listed various plans as either being green (under construction), amber (with funding agreed but no start date in place) or red (cancelled or mothballed).

BCC director of policy Dr Adam Marshall said: "Transport infrastructure is critical to business growth but progress on the investment promised by successive governments continues to be too slow."

Those looking to buy used cars may be keen to see swifter progress on amber projects such as the A453 widening project in Nottinghamshire, or red ones such as the A14 Ellington to Fen Ditton Scheme in the East of England and the M4 relief road between Cardiff and Newport.

A study published by the Trades Union Congress earlier this month found the average commuter takes 52.8 minutes to reach their place of work each day.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801495705-ADNFCR
