Audi dominates round two of the DTM in Valencia

Audi dominates round two of the DTM in Valencia

Fans of Audi cars will have been pleased to see the manufacturer bounce back from a poor opening round of the 2010 DTM Championship with a commanding victory.

Matthias Ekstrom comfortably led home the field in his Audi A4 DTM, with teammate Martin Tomczyk finishing in second position.

However, Audi's joy at a first one-two of the season was short-lived, as it was soon discovered that due to a mix-up, one of the tyres on Tomczyk's car had come from a wrong set.

Although a technicality, rules are rules and the German driver was disqualified after the race.

However, the head of Audi Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich expressed his pleasure at a "moral" one-two though.

"Principally, it was a great race for Audi – and we could have been very pleased with the original result. Our cars were very fast and our drivers strong," he said.

In the FIA GT3 European Championship, Audi had a frustrating afternoon in Brno, with neither car managing to finish above 14th place in either race.
